Makeup in your 40s

I don’t know about you, but my face has changed. My skin’s drier, my eyes have become a little more hooded, my lips have lost a bit of definition and I’m definitely looking increasingly grey in colour. Add to that, some seriously out of control eyebrow hairs, sensitive skin and an abundance of ‘fine lines’ and you feel like you have a challenge on you hands in the morning! I’m probably exaggerating a bit here (although I am in my mid 40’s, its inevitable), but you know what I mean right ?

My 5 quick, easy makeup tips, to make you feel fresh faced in under 5 minutes. This is particularly useful if you have very little time and don’t want to be flapping around with a ton of products. I may use a few skincare products, but honestly, I really do slap them on!

1. Moisturise like hell!

We need to get that glow back and if you’re anything like me, its never enough, or you need to add more in the afternoon. I use a hyaluronic serum, followed by a vitamin C serum, moisturiser, bit of oil, then sunscreen. Don’t forget sunscreen!

2. Use a good quality concealer to conceal only the dark areas under your eyes. If you brighten the inner corner and that darkness under the eye very lightly, with little product, it will really help to make you feel bright eyed. Pat the concealer in with your ring finger. Then pat some more. Use it sparingly anywhere else you feel needs some cover, but be light handed. If you get a good colour match, you can get away with this technique.

3. Pat a cream blusher higher on your cheek bones rather than on the apple. This visually lifts your face. I tend to swipe 2 diagonal lines (one above the other) each side, then pat and blend it up and out (towards top of cheek bone). Cream blush gives a more luminous finish, its flattering and pretty. You could use a lipstick for this too, then pat some on your lips. Thats 2 things sorted !

4. Mascara time ! Hold the brush horizontally and press right into the roots of your upper lashes, then wiggly the brush side to side and pull up and out. This makes the lashes darker at the root, giving the effect of eyeliner. If you get mascara on your lid, just swipe it off with a wet cotton bud.

5. Now lets tame those browsters. Use a good brow gel with some serious holding power and brush all the way through, backwards and forwards so the all the hair is coated on all sides. Then brush then back. I like to brush mine up, then swipe my finger along the top so they lie neatly and not stick too far up. I then press them down gently with my finger and wait for the gel to dry. Once dry, use an eyebrow pen or thin pencil to lightly fill in where needed. Practice on the back of your hand first, little light strokes. I try and keep this to a minimum.

Thats it ! Let me know what you think and watch this space, there will be more like this coming your way. I have so many ideas of what to blog about! If there’s anything you’d like me to cover, please let me know.
