The wedding series: How to have the perfect wedding morning.
Your big day is looming, everything is ready (you hope) and now its time to think about how you can ensure the morning (or ‘getting ready’ bit) goes smoothly, is stress free and fun! Here are some things to think about, which will hopefully help you have the perfect morning that you will look back on with a smile !
Wedding day cheers!
Not hugely fun but start by working out a schedule of timings. Talk to your Hair and Makeup Artist and ask them to send you the hair and makeup schedule. Find out when your photographer is arriving, videographer, flowers etc… and pop it in that schedule. Make a list of numbers for each supplier arriving, in case you need to call them, or one of your bridal party can do it for you. Saves time scrolling through phones! Nominate someone to be in charge, someone who can greet suppliers, know where to put flowers etc.., so you can just sit back and relax. Have your schedule out on a table so that someone else can ensure things run smoothly. Today is your day to chill!
Leave yourself enough time to get up slowly and take stock of things, before people start arriving. Have a lovely relaxing bath or shower. Start as you mean to go on!
Create a ‘wedding morning’ play list and work out how you’re going to play the music. Do you need a portable speaker, or is there one at the hotel or ‘getting ready’ venue? Who is going to be in charge of setting it up? Its the small details!
Wedding morning food
Arrange some food! There tends to be a huge gap between leaving your getting ready location and sitting down to your wedding breakfast, so make sure you eat before you go. When nerves kick in, its very tempting to have a glass of bubbly and skip food. You want to feel level headed, without a grumbly stomach!
Sit back and enjoy having your hair and makeup done! Sounds obvious doesn’t it, but if you’re an anxious person and you have lots of interruptions, people asking questions etc.. it may make you more anxious. So set this time aside and let people know that you’re temporarily, not available. Someone else can deal with Auntie Mo!
If you have children, is there someone within your family or friendship group that could help you with them?
Beautiful wedding dress!
Figure out roughly how long it will take to get in your dress. Maybe there are lots of buttons at the back or ribbons to thread. Go for a wee before you get into your dress! Allow enough time to put your dress on, shoes, jewellery and perfume, without having to rush.
What time do you need to leave? Or see the registrar?
What photos do you want to have before you leave?
Time flies on a wedding morning, so my top tip will always be, leave plenty of time and plan ahead!
Simple wedding bouquet
Don’t forget your lippy, emergency hair pins (if hair is pinned in anyway) and some plasters. Someone can look after these bits for you!
Now have a fabulous wedding morning ! I hope this has been helpful in some way,
Nicky x
Hi! I’m Nicky, I’ve been a Hair and Makeup for yonks now. Roughly 20 years! I’ve worked with 100s of brides and LOVE my job. I also do makeup lessons for both brides who want to do their own makeup ,and anyone else who wants to learn. I’m hugely passionate about teaching people makeup techniques and generally waffling on about hair and makeup. Honestly, I could go on for hours! Brides book me for my natural hair and makeup looks (and I like to think because I’m a super lovely person who is a very calming influence on a wedding day!).
