The Wedding Series: How to be ‘the chilled out bride’

Getting married is nerve wracking, I know that. You’ve spent a ton of money and put a load of work in, your nervous about walking down the aisle, will everything go to plan, will Uncle Bob behave and a whole lot more. Over the years, I watched many a bride getting really stressed on her wedding day and it doesn’t need to be like that. Here are a few tit bits, from my wealth of experience working as a wedding hair and makeup artist, that will hopefully help you chill out and enjoy every minute of your wedding day.

Get organised

Now, this comes from someone who has always found organisation a challenge! Planning out the entire days proceedings is essential. That includes the morning or ‘getting ready’ period. Make a time table and delegate some jobs. Your job on your wedding day is to enjoy it, not worry about how smoothly things will run. Put in the time before the day and you wont regret it!

Making a plan

Don’t worry about the weather

You can’t control this, it will be do what it will do. The weather can cause so much anxiety for brides and it breaks my heart! Your photographer will be able to take some amazing rain based pics and blazing sunshine isn’t always your friend anyway. You’re going to have an AMAZING day whatever the weather! You’ll laugh about it one day.

Hate being centre of attention?

Everyone coming to your wedding is a friend or family member, they’re there FOR YOU. They want to see you happy and they’re looking at you walk down the aisle with love. A little tip for the nervous aisle walker….look at your partner at the end of the aisle/end location and smile! Imagine its just you and them in the room.

Choose a hairstyle and makeup look that doesn’t cause you anxiety

If curls drop quickly in your hair, consider an up-do. Do you have super frizzy hair that you worry will frizz up later in the day? Get a keratin blowdry before the wedding. Do you have very oily skin? Choose a light base, less product means less movement. Maybe you have very dry skin which makes foundation flaky after a few hours. Get your skin in good nick well before the day. Its all about damage limitation!

The hectic getting ready room

Are you likely to get anxious with lots of people around you while you get ready? Keep numbers to a minimum. Imagine how you would like your getting ready period to go. What and who will add unnecessary stress?

Don’t worry about the small things. Little decorations or small details won’t be noticed and it doesn’t matter.

I hope this has been helpful to someone out there. What things are you worried about ? Let me know in the comments!
