How to shop online for makeup
Shopping online for makeup can be really tricky. We shop for so much online these days and can’t always get to a physical shop. When shopping online, you generally can’t try before you buy, feel the texture or see the colour ‘in real life’. I’ve made so many bad purchases in the past, but now I feel I have it down to an art and want to share with you how I go about buying makeup online.
Looking for the perfect foundation…..
First you need to decide what sort of formula you want. Are you looking for a full coverage foundation that stays put, a medium coverage, or do you just want a light tint? Do you have very oily skin, dry skin, balanced skin etc…? Full coverage foundations tend to be long-wearing setting formulas these days. They also tend to be a little drying for drier skin types. For this reason they’re better for oily skins. For skins that are on on the drier side, I would either put a really good dose of moisture (ideally oil-based) underneath a full coverage formula, if you prefer that, or either a medium coverage formula or a tinted serum/tinted moisturiser.
Once you’ve established what sort of base you’re hunting for, I would google terms such as ‘best medium coverage foundation 2023’ and read reviews on blogs, magazines and from Makeup Artists. There’s so much great info out there ! People review everything now which is really helpful when you’re looking to buy. I especially advise listening to the pro’s, as they use different foundations frequently on varying skin tones!

Checking makeup colours…
I spend a bit of time doing this. Often there are photos of people with different shades of makeup on but its not always very accurate and sometimes its WAY OFF ! Head back to our friend google and search for images of ‘swatches’ of the makeup you’re after. There will be a ton of images in different light and varying skin tones, but after a bit you will get a fairly good idea of the actual colour and its often teamed with their description of the colour.
Its also worth searching on youtube as there will always be someone who uses your makeup product in a makeup video.
You can sometimes buy samples to ‘try before you buy’ online but sadly that’s not always the case and its a very long-winded process if you’re keen to get on with it! Reviews are your best friend so try and read a few. There’s a ton of beauty blogs out there by people who test out makeup for a living, they’re a really good source of information.
