Have you considered doing your own wedding makeup? Maybe having someone else do your makeup on the wedding day isn’t something you particularly want, you don’t like people touching your face, or you would rather spend your money on learning how to apply your own makeup so you can apply it over and over again well beyond your wedding day. Whatever your reasons are, here are my tips for doing your own, super natural, healthy looking wedding makeup look…

TIP #1

Start by hitting pinterest. Use keywords such as ‘natural makeup’, ‘minimal makeup’, ‘natural wedding makeup look’ and ‘clean makeup look’ to search for bridal makeup look ideas. Look beyond wedding images too as you can get great inspiration from fashion magazines and bridal catwalk shows. Its quite hard to find really natural makeup pics on pinterest, so spend some time having a good old hunt.

TIP #2

Keep in mind the style of makeup that you already do. Most brides want to look like the best version of themselves, so you don’t want to do anything too far off what you already do. You also want to be recognised by your groom!

TIP #3

Think about any colour schemes you may have, dresses, jewellry, flowers and so on when choosing colours. Do you want everything to be cohesive? Or maybe you love a good colour clash!

TIP No4

Don’t forget skincare and the time of year you’re getting married. Do you need to switch up your usual foundation to suit your skin for that season. Oily skin needs extra prep in the summer and drier skins are generally less dry in the summer. Start doing a skin care prep routine to get it in good nick for the big day. I’ve got a skin prep guide which you can download, I’ll pop a link at the end!

TIP #5

Get yourself a lippy/lipgloss and a pressed powder to top up during the day. Lipgloss and tinted balms are lower maintenance so consider this option if you want a truly easy application. However perfectly your makeup is applied, if you have very oily skin, you will need to powder again at some point. Invest in a setting spray and a good primer to help with longevity.

TIP #6

Are you a glasses wearer? Maybe you opting for contacts on the day, but if not, your eyes may need a little extra definition.

TIP #7

Don’t try any new products too close to the wedding, just in case you have some sort of reaction. Ideally get all your makeup and skincare shopping done well before the day, so you can have plenty of time to practice and make sure you don’t react to anything.

TIP #8

Apply your foundation/tinted moisturiser in thin layers and blend well. Less is most definitely more. The more you apply, the more likely it is to move or sit in lines. Press your hands over your face afterwards to really work it into your skin.

TIP #9

Use a waterproof mascara. Need I say more ?! Apply a few layers of mascara, really pressing it into the roots of your lashes to give your eyes definition. Comb through with a spooley afterwards to separate them out and give a more natural finish.

TIP #10

Use cream products. A sweep of cream eyeshadow gives subtle definition and has a more skin like appearance than powder. Cream or liquid blush has a lovely slightly dewy finish that really gives you that fresh faced, healthy look. Blend upwards and outwards towards the hairline.
