Effortless Bridal Hair and Makeup: Top Tips for a Flawless Wedding Day Look
Imagine yourself walking down the aisle/into a room on your wedding day. You look INCREDIBLE. Minimal makeup, an effortless hairstyle. Its as though you just fell out of bed looking amazing. You have radiant, fresh skin, subtly defined eyes and soft loose waves. Or your hair looks as though its been thrown up into a soft, textured hairstyle, hitting the GORGEOUS ‘nail on the head’. This is effortless bridal beauty and its super cool right now.
Of course, the whole idea behind this style of wedding hair and makeup, is that it looks as though, very little effort has been made. This is minimalist hair and makeup for brides. Ditch the structured hairstyles and neatly coiffed hair and bring out the skin-tints and tinted lip balms.
I’ve totally nailed effortless beauty. Stopped trying to fight my natural waves (my god does this save time in the long run) I no longer want to cry when it rains on my hair and ruins my efforts to keep it smooth. Makeup takes me 5 mins. Funnily enough, if I have an hour to do both my hair and makeup, I’ll still go to great lengths to make it look as though it took 5 mins.
If you’re DIYing it, these tips will keep you on the right track. Decided to book a Hair and Makeup Artist? This will help you to find the right person and get the right message across
MAKEUP TIPS
TIP 1 - Keep your makeup base LIGHT. Full overage foundation doesn’t shout ‘effortless’. Use a skin-tint/tinted moisturiser if you have to. OR, just use concealer strategically to cover blemishes and brighten dark shadows.
TIP 2 - Consider using a brown mascara (unless you have dark hair) and comb through the lashes with a spooley after applying. This removes any clumps and gives a lovely, natural fluffy lash.
TIP 3 - Go easy on the eyeliner! Either tight-line (scribble on the edge of the waterline close to your top lashes) or apply a very thin line, close to your top lashes. Again, consider using brown, or taupe if you can wear it. Gel liner is probably the easiest to use. Grab yourself a small synthetic, angled brush for this job.
TIP 4 - Brush through brows, then only fill in areas that are sparse. Be light-handed and draw hair like strokes. we want them to look realistic!
TIP 5 - Opt for a cream eyeshadow rather than powder. Something in a similar tone to your skin is ideal. Think, ‘pretty sheen’.
TIP 6 - Use a cream blusher. Ideally something that makes you looked ‘flushed’. Or, a similar colour to your lippy.
TIP 7 - Treat yourself to a lovely tinted lip-balm or a lip oil/gloss. Something that you can apply without using a mirror. Nice and easy.
HAIR TIPS
TIP 1 - Make sure you blow-dry product into your hair to give it some hold before you start styling it. A volumising mousse or spray will help.
TIP 2 - If you’re curling your hair, use a LIGHT spray on the hair first before curling. Strong hold hairsprays can weigh your hair down.
TIP 3 - Leave the ends out when curling gives a more ‘effortless’ feel to the look. Or keeping a loose curls just at the ends.
TIP 4 - Texture sprays and dusts are brilliant for adding that ‘undone’ airy-ness to hair.
TIP 5 - Keep it simple. Pin a couple of pieces of hair from the sides back to meet in the middle for a beautiful, simple, ‘half-up’ style. Or brush through your curls after curling to give a soft natural wave and wear it in a down-style.
TIP 6 - Add a small accessory to your style, such as a hair pin.
TIP 7 - Don’t add too much hairspray to your finished style. It can look crispy and over styled!
Choosing your wedding Hair and Makeup Artist -
Quite simply, choose someone who has pictures in their portfolio of a hair and makeup look that you like. If they do effortless hair and makeup, that’s better than hoping they can because you like the other styles they do and they are cheaper.
